How To Clean Your Soft Furnishings
How To Clean Your Soft FurnishingsJust like the rest of your home, your soft furnishings need to be cleaned regularly. Although most people take the time to clean their floors, appliances and sideboards, not everyone remembers that their soft furnishings need sanitising and cleaning too! There are lots of different ways in which you can clean the softer items in your home, but here are just a few of the best and most effective ways to get the results that you’re looking for! 1)    Sofas and armchairs. The sofas and armchairs in your home can become pretty grubby and dirty over time, but though you might think that cleaning the fabric that they’re upholstered in might be difficult, you’ll actually be able to clean it in no time at all! Mix a quarter of a cup of washing up liquid with a full cup of warm water and whisk until it’s both bubbly and foamy. Rub the mixture into the fabric of the sofa with a clean cloth, but don’t apply too much pressure or too much water, as this can cause damages. Scrape away the unclean suds after you’ve finished and then blot at the fabric with a damp cloth. You’ll find this an easy and quick way to lift dirt in your living room, so why not give it a go? It’s worth checking that the fabric that your sofa or armchair are upholstered in will respond well to this cleaning. Check the label and if you have dry-clean only furniture then stay well clear of this cleaning method!2)    Curtains.Your curtains need to be cleaned regularly to keep them looking as good as new, and luckily they can usually be cleaned very quickly and easily! Check the labels before taking them down to wash them, as some fabrics might not be machine washable. The majority of them will be though, and so a turn in the washing machine is all that they need! For a faster and more efficient clean, why not take a steam cleaner to your curtains? The hot steam will kill bacteria and germs, and will leave your curtains looking as good as new! If your curtains are dry-clean only then it’s definitely worth getting them cleaned professional to keep your home looking immaculately clean.3)    Pillows, cushions and throws. Most of your pillows, cushions and throws will be machine washable, which makes them incredibly easy to clean. Despite their ease of cleaning, lots of people still neglect to bother! Your bedroom pillows, living room cushions and decorative throws will look brighter, better and will last for years to come if you clean them on a regular basis, so why not set aside the time to do this every once in a while?4)    Cleaning your mattress. Not everyone would class their mattress as soft furnishings, but it’s a part of your home that needs sanitising to ensure that your health isn’t compromised! A steam cleaner will make quick work of your mattress by killing bacteria and even destroying bedbugs. If you don’t own your own steam cleaner then you can rent one from your local cleaning company or even from some supermarkets. Keeping your mattress clean and sanitary will ensure that it lasts for a long time without needing replacing, and this could save you money in the long run! The benefits of a clean mattress are innumerable, and a clean mattress guarantees the best night’s sleep possible!
